| Lady Sydney Morgan |
Her book, The Wild Irish Girl, brought her name into warm controversy, in which she appeared as the ardent champion of her native country, a politician rather than a novelist, extolling the beauty of Irish scenery, the richness of the natural wealth of Ireland, and the noble traditions of its early history. Her novels upon Irish manners and history, and Irish subjects generally, attracted considerable attention to the country, then in the most depressed condition.
“The liberal opinions expressed in [her] works brought upon her much obloquy, and caused the loss of many friends” (Source: Library Ireland), but Lady Morgan persisted in her writing until her death in 1859.
Lady Sydney Morgan was listed among the eminent women in the records of the St. George Temple. To learn more about the painting by Michael Bedard in this video please click here.
