Euphrosyne Parepa-Rosa | Eminent Women

Euphrosyne Parepa-Rosa

Euphrosyne Parepa-Rosa was an exceptionally talented and accomplished British operatic soprano.

In 1866, she toured the United States with violinist Carl Rosa, marrying him in New York City in 1867. Together they quickly established the Parepa-Rosa English Opera Company there, which became incredibly popular, and which introduced opera to places in America where it had never been staged.

She and her husband continued to tour the world, traveling through Britain, Egypt and touring America a second time.

She died in childbirth at the age of 37. Carl Rosa endowed the Parepa-Rosa Scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music in her memory.

Euphrosyne Parepa-Rosa was listed among the eminent women in the records of the St. George Temple. To learn more about the painting by Michael Bedard in this video please click here.
